Janet Lanyon Speaker at Employment Law Institute

Janet Lanyon spoke on "Managing Retirement Plans in Today’s Economy – Risks and Opportunities" at the Labor & Employment Law Institute on April 30, 2010. The event was sponsored by the Institute of Continuing Legal Education. In a changing economic environment, employers with 401(k), profit sharing and other retirement plans need to tighten controls to avoid costly tax and ERISA compliance problems. Janet discussed recent IRS changes making it easier for plan sponsors to implement automatic enrollment and participant deferral features and to modify or terminate employer contributions. Janet noted that it is important for employers to "develop a game plan to address evolving ERISA fiduciary responsibilities, including the responsibilities of plan sponsors who make investment advice available and disclosure of retirement plan investment provider loads and fees."
